Hotel Review- Conrad Koh Samui

Mr. O and I had the pleasure of staying at the Conrad Koh Samui during our trip to Thailand. Even though the resort was at capacity, I was upgraded to an ocean front king suite and recognized as a return guest. The Conrad Koh Samui has 65 one-bedroom villas, 14 two-bedroom villas, and 1 Royal Villa.

Cost

We paid for our stay with the old Citi Hilton Reserve credit card. The reward bonus came with (2) free night certificates. This has since passed. The current offer is the Hilton American Express credit card. The hotel cost per night is 80,000-95,000 points depending on the month. If you apply for both the personal and business AMEX cards, you could potentially earn enough for 3 nights after hitting the minimum spend. This is a great value considering the per night rate is around $1,000 during high season.

Location

The resort is built on the southern tip of the island, overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. The hotel is hard to find and approximately an hour drive from Koh Samui airport.

I would suggest renting a car so you can explore the island at your leisure. I used National Rental Car from the airport and the cost was around $67 for 3 days. Valet parking at the Conrad is complimentary.

In-Room Amenities

Prior to arrival, an email was received instructing us to customize our in-room amenities. The Conrad really goes above and beyond to ensure your in-room experience is just how you’d like it. They provide 4 different bathroom amenity options as well as a pillow menu. Conrad properties have a pillow menu with 15 different options, so you can pick the perfect pillow to help you get a good night’s rest.

Once you arrived to the property, you are quickly escorted to the lobby for check-in.

While waiting, we were offered a delicious nonalcoholic drink of honey, ginger, and lime and cold towels. We were then driven in our personal golf cart to our villa. Since the property is on a cliff, you have to be transported via golf cart throughout the property.

At the door of our villa, there was a welcome back sign as this was my 2nd stay at the property. That was a nice personalized touch.

Inside our room, a staff member went over how to use the iPad and the Hilton Gold benefits:

  • Welcome fruit basket

  • Free daily breakfast at Zest

  • Complimentary Internet

  • 2,500 Hilton points for spending at least $125 at the spa

The highlights of the room were the bathroom and the infinity pool. The huge bathroom included a massive circular bathtub that overlooks the infinity pool and ocean. The hotel staff also surprised us with a romantic bubble bath after returning from dinner one night. Luckily our villa was on the end and allowed for privacy while in the pool.

Activities

Along with having a gym and spa, the hotel offers complimentary activities throughout the day. They offer daily Thai cooking classes, a half day snorkel tour on a private island, and Thai boxing classes. The Thai boxing class, makes you appreciate Muay Thai boxing fighters. That workout was no joke. For the snorkel tour, they take you on their private yacht with 2 other hotel guests. Once on the private island, a staff member set up a lounge area on the beach for us to relax. Throughout your stay, you realized why this is a 5-star hotel. I suggest you book these activities when you check-in. Spaces are limited.

Food

As a Gold member, we were offered free breakfast each day. I like to eat later in the morning so I’m not too hungry for lunch. The breakfast buffet spread was endless. You have local Asian and American cuisine. There's also an ala carte menu that included omelets and pancakes.

For dinner, we ordered a flatbread margarita pizza off the room service menu. This was the cheapest item on the menu. It was delicious and filling.

Overall

The Conrad Koh Samui is well worth the points. The property is great for a romantic secluded getaway. By applying for the personal and business cards you can have the same luxury experience. If you have a spouse, you both can apply for the cards to maximize your stay. The only downside to the property is the distance to nightlife and other attractions. You’ll drive at least 30 minutes to get anywhere. If you don’t plan on staying at the property most of your stay, I’d suggest another property.
